Former Stargate actress Amanda Tapping may have another hit on her hands. Santuary, the new SCI FI Channel fantasy series Tapping stars in and executive produces, premiered last Friday with a 2.2 average household rating. Approximately 2.7 million people tuned in to the U.S. premiere.
Sanctuary was the number one cable program for the night of October 3 in the demographic of adults aged 25 to 54, and number four among Adults 18-49. It's the highest-rated original series premiere since Eureka bowed in July of 2006.
The series was created by Damian Kindler, who served as a writer and producer on Stargate SG-1 between Seasons Six and Nine. Also executive producing with Kindler and Tapping is former Stargate director Martin Wood, and television veteran Sam Egan.
Tapping ("Samantha Carter") stars as Dr. Helen Magnus, a 157-year-old scientist who runs a sanctuary for strange creatures and people with supernatural abilities. The show also stars Robin Dunne, Emilie Ullerup, and Christopher Heyerdahl.
Heyerdahl is also currently playing "Todd" the Wraith on Stargate Atlantis.
Sanctuary takes over Atlantis's 10 p.m. time slot starting this Friday night, with Atlantis now airing at 9 p.m.

Tapping: SG-1 and Atlantis movies will shoot next year

Tapping: SG-1 and Atlantis movies will shoot next year

UPDATE: Amanda Tapping confirmed to reporters that she has agreed to the third SG-1 movie, and not the first Atlantis movie (yet), contradicting the report at Sci Fi Wire. The story below has been corrected accordingly. Watch Amanda's video Q&A from Colorado now at CinemaBlend.com.
A third Stargate SG-1 movie and the first Stargate Atlantis movie will film simultaneously in 2009, actress Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter") told reporters at a Colorado news conference last week and Sci Fi Wire is reporting.
"Rumor has it [that the third SG-1 DVD movie will shoot] late spring / early summer of next year, but I honestly couldn't tell you beyond that," Tapping said. "I know Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis will be shooting movies at that time."
Tapping confirmed that she agreed to appear in the next SG-1 movie. (She may also appear in the Atlantis film, as well.) "I know nothing about it, except that I've been asked if I would make myself available, and of course I said, 'Yes.'" In addition, she will also appear in the final episode of Stargate Atlantis. "Enemy At the Gate" airs in the U.S. in January.
Though rumors of the next SG-1 movie have been circulating for a few months now, MGM has yet to announce that it has officially been given a green light. The script is reportedly being written by Stargate SG-1 executive producer and co-creator Brad Wright, who is also busy getting the new television series Stargate Universe off the ground (story).
That series begins filming in early February, likely ahead of both movies.
The Stargate Atlantis movie, meanwhile, is currently being penned by executive producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.
Just when will the two films be finished and ready to watch? MGM hasn't announced anything yet, but if they do wait until the spring or summer to film, it's likely that at least the SG-1 film won't be ready until 2010. SCI FI has said that it will premiere the Atlantis movie in 2009. The SG-1 movie might follow the first two, The Ark of Truth and Continuum, in going straight to DVD.
Read more at Sci Fi Wire now! The final ten episodes of Stargate Atlantis kicks off Friday, October 10 at 9 p.m. on The SCI FI Channel.

SCI FI to air Ark of Truth, Continuum

SCI FI to air Ark of Truth, Continuum

The SCI FI Channel will air the two new Stargate SG-1 movies next spring, the cable network has confirmed. Executive producer Brad Wright told GateWorld in August that SCI FI had inked a deal to air the films (interview), along with a series of Stargate Atlantis movies -- the first of which is expected to debut on SCI FI later in 2009.
SCI FI aired Stargate SG-1 for five seasons, from 2002 to 2006. The news means that viewers who watched the show on cable, but haven't seen the movies in their DVD release, will finally see the resolution to the two-year Ori story arc.
In Stargate: The Ark of Truth, SG-1 takes the Earth vessel Odyssey through the Supergate to the Ori home galaxy in the hopes of locating the Ark of Truth, a legendary artifact created millions of years ago by an Alteran scientist -- rumored to be capable of stopping the intergalactic war once and for all.
Stargate: The Ark of Truth premiered first on DVD, hitting the shelves in the United States last March. Stargate: Continuum followed on DVD and Blu-ray in July.
Continuum is more of a stand-alone adventure, which sees Sam Carter, Daniel Jackson, and Cameron Mitchell thrust into an altered Earth after the last Goa'uld System Lord, Baal (Cliff Simon), changes the timeline. Richard Dean Anderson puts in a special guest appearance as Jack O'Neill.
Pick up these movies now on DVD at Amazon.com! Stay tuned for details on when the films will air on SCI FI as soon as the network announces it.

Cooper goes to 'Vegas'

Cooper goes to 'Vegas'

Beware of minor SPOILERS for Season Five's "Vegas" in the report below.
Stargate Atlantis is headed to Las Vegas for a very "C.S.I." episode, set to air nineteenth this season -- the last episode before the January series finale. Writer-director Robert C. Cooper offered a few new hints at the upcoming episode "Vegas" in a new interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
"Vegas" is "an alternate reality story" that is set on "a slightly askew version of Earth," Cooper told the newspaper. In that world, John Sheppard became a homicide detective.
But don't expect the episode to avoid a very science fiction tie-in to Stargate Atlantis's mythology. Sheppard finds himself tracking a Wraith, played by Neil Jackson ("Khalek"), who uses make-up to blend in among humans.
The Wraith even ends up in a high-stakes poker game with Sopranos veterans Steve Schirripa and Frank Vincent.
The episode will also feature such Vegas-based action as a 9-story fall by a stunt performer, and scenes inside and in front of the Planet Hollywood casino, the paper said.
Check out the full story now. Stargate Atlantis returns October 10 at 9 p.m. on The SCI FI Channel!
